History & Heritage
This piece carries a rich Australasian heritage. Originally popularized by NAMCO (National Art Metal Company), established in Australia in 1946 by John Storey, these stools became a staple of post-war modernist design. NAMCO expanded into New Zealand in 1957, manufacturing iconic steel and chrome furniture through 2007. Ubiquitous in 1950s–1970s pantries and kitchens across New Zealand and Australia, these heavy-duty stools are prized today for their virtually indestructible build quality and timeless mid-century aesthetic.
